Urban exploration is the exploration of abandoned and forgotten buildings and structures and urban exploration activities include sneaking, trespassing and exploring rooftops and abandoned urban environment. Its recent recognition as a discipline of urban studies led to the creation of an international organisation, the Urban Exploration Research Network (UREN) in 1999 by two French urban explorers, Ben and Patrick Reis.
